"Gnangara Pines 1" A Western Australian landscape oil painting - Private Collection
Gnangara Pines 1 - Landscape view of Western Australia
A few years ago I spent a couple of weeks of summer painting in the Gnangara Pine Forests north of Perth. I produced a number of late afternoon and evening plein air oil sketches.
Last year I used that reference material to paint several studio landscapes of the Gnangara Pines for an exhibition.
This stand of stragglers had been left after tree felling operations. I presume the reason was to provide a wildlife refuge for the fauna that lived in the cleared areas of the plantation.
I was struck by the lyrical pattern of trunks, branches and foliage shapes that created a fantastic sillouette. As the sun was setting on this semi-humid hot evening, the dark pine foliage caught the last of the light and lit up with red highlights.
This painting belongs to a private collector now but I do have a selection of other original Australian landscape oil paintings that are available to purchase.
A
site for lovers of fine art, painting
and landscape in particular
Landscape painting is a relatively new genre in
the history of western fine art. For centuries, paintings
were admired for their dedications to religion, history
and mythology. The act of creating a work of fine art
that paid homage to no greater theme than that of a non-religious
or human subject was unthinkable.
Thankfully things have changed and painting the landscape
for the sheer enjoyment of the aesthetics of nature, whether
references to man are included or not, is an accepted
and much loved pastime for thousands of landscape artists
worldwide. The viewing and possession of excellent landscape
paintings brings great pleasure to almost everybody.
This site is my contribution to the promotion and enjoyment
of the work of landscape artists, particularly Australian landscape artists and their beautiful contributions to
the world of art.
